Active English plans

1st May, 2019

Our Active Maths resource ‘Maths of the Day’ started just over 3 years ago. Initially a ‘file’ of ideas supporting a cluster of schools, it has seen dramatic growth to its current online resource, providing 2000+ lesson plans and activities and being used in schools all over the UK.

During this time we have been praised by Ofsted, had case studies sent to DfE, appeared on the BBC and been included in the 2019 Parliamentary Review for outstanding practice in education.

Active learning is becoming more widely accepted and taken on in schools, as evidence and research shows us the impact that this approach can have, not just to levels of physical activity, but also supporting the raising of attitudes to and attainment in core subjects.

To provide a quality resource which stands out from the crowd and is used and respected by teachers and educational professionals has always been our aim – and to obviously impact on the end user who we are all in this journey for – the children.

We work tirelessly with our charitable partner the Youth Sport Trust to advocate and endorse our resource (more quality assurance) and through this work we are now delighted to be launching our ACTIVE ENGLISH resource.

Currently available to existing customers and currently sitting on the ‘Maths of the Day’ platform (see Teach Active blog post for important changes here) our ACTIVE ENGLISH provides you with hundreds of fun, engaging and high-quality activities (with resources) on how to deliver the English curriculum through physical activity.

Key Messages:

  • 750+ lesson plans and resources
  • Mapped to the primary English curriculum
  • Covers every objective under the area of ‘Writing’:
(text level, sentence level, punctuation, handwriting, spelling and word work)

  • Endorsed by charity Youth Sport Trust

Youth Sport Trust and Maths of the Day have been in partnership for over 3 years and have seen the relationship go from strength to strength.  The power of the partnership lies in the fact that both organisations are committed to the same goal: improving lives and transforming education through sport and play.  Through their innovative approach, Maths of the Day allows teachers and leaders to put activity as the driving force behind the learning of mathematics.  We are proud to endorse, proud to champion and we continue to be proud to work with Jon and the Maths of the Day team.

- Ali Oliver, CEO, Youth Sport Trust

We have been inundated with teachers and school leaders singing the praises of the Maths of the Day approach to active maths. That’s why, due to the huge success of Maths of the Day, we are delighted to announce the continuation of our partnership by launching the ‘Active English’ resource to schools. Not only will this support schools in developing a more active school day, it will also drive up standards in English within your school.  As an English teacher for 20 years, this has a particularly important place in my heart.  We hope you love it as much as we do!

- Stuart Kay, Schools Director, Youth Sport Trust
