Gwladys Street Primary and Nursery School (Early Years Study)

Some children in EYFS had low confidence in their mathematical ability and were reluctant to work independently during their maths activities.
Our Maths co-ordinator invited Jon Smedley into school to deliver CPD training on Teach Active. Teach Active is now used across the school and is built into our weekly planning.
Children are excited, enthusiastic and motivated to take part in Teach Active activities. This, in turn has impacted on children's attitudes towards mathematical learning in all areas of the EYFS curriculum.
We have found that children who were reluctant to attempt mathematical activities without adult support are now much more confident to try new taks independently. Children have taken their new found enthusiasm and are now applying it throughout continuous provision.
