Primary PE and Sport Premium Funding Confirmed for 2025/26

Following the recent spending review, the government has confirmed that the Primary PE and Sport Premium Funding will continue for the 2025/26 academic year. That's £320 million of government funding heading to primary schools across England to help improve PE, physical activity and sport for pupils.

What Does This Mean for Your School?

The funding structure stays the same as previous years - schools with 16 or fewer eligible pupils receive £1,000 per pupil, whilst larger schools get £16,000 plus £10 per pupil. It's a real lifeline that helps schools of all sizes boost their PE provision and get more children active and healthy.

How Can You Use the Funding?

The Primary PE and Sport Premium Funding is designed to help schools achieve five key things:

  • Increasing daily physical activity in children.
  • Improving PE teaching through professional development.
  • Broaden sports and activities offered to all pupils.
  • Developing healthy lifestyles by promoting active habits both inside and outside of school.

How Teach Active Can Help

This is where we come in! Our programmes are specifically designed to tick all these boxes and help you make the most of your funding.

Increased confidence, knowledge, and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport

We provide professional whole-school CPD for teachers by giving them the tools to integrate movement and physical activity into their teaching practices. This can help to increase staff confidence and competence in using physical activity effectively, especially in non-PE subjects.

Engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity

By promoting active learning, it can help increase engagement in physical activity for all students, even those who may not typically engage in traditional PE lessons.

The profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement

Teachers are being encouraged to use physical activity as part of everyday teaching, it can certainly raise the profile of PE and sport. By embedding physical activity into various subjects, the approach can also help develop a culture of physical activity across the school.

The Numbers That Matter Let's put this in perspective. A 100-pupil school gets around £17,000 in Primary PE and Sport Premium Funding. Our full Maths & English package costs just £575 annually (that's only 3.4% of your funding).
