Supporting the "Let's Get Bury Moving" project

We're incredibly proud to announce our partnership with Bury Public Health, Bury Council, Bury School Sport Partnership, and Greater Manchester Moving as part of the groundbreaking "Let's Get Bury Moving" project — the first borough-wide initiative of its kind in the UK.

We’re proud to be supporting schools across the borough to embed physical activity into everyday learning — helping create happier, healthier pupils and boosting educational outcomes along the way.

A Partnership with Purpose

Through Let's Get Bury Moving, Teach Active is delivering a comprehensive borough-wide programme that provides every primary school in Bury with training and resources to embed movement into Maths and English lessons. We're tackling some of the biggest challenges facing schools today — inactivity, health inequalities, and rising SEN needs — while simultaneously raising educational standards.

The programme is backed by research from Loughborough University and brings together the expertise and commitment of multiple partners, all united by a shared vision: creating healthier, happier, and better-attaining children across the borough.

Our Workshop Day: 42 Schools, One Vision

On Wednesday 21st January, we had the privilege of delivering our launch teacher training workshop, and what an incredible day it was!

42 schools attended — bringing together educators from across Bury for a day filled with great energy, great learning, and lots of movement. The enthusiasm and engagement in the room was palpable as teachers experienced firsthand how physical activity can be seamlessly woven into everyday lessons.

The day brought together all partner organisations, demonstrating the truly collaborative nature of this project. Seeing so many dedicated professionals coming together with a shared commitment to improving outcomes for children was genuinely inspiring.

Why This Matters

Let's Get Bury Moving represents a bold, place-based approach to addressing some of the most pressing challenges in education and public health:

  • Tackling Inactivity: By embedding movement into the school day, we're helping children stay active without adding pressure to already packed timetables.
  • Addressing Health Inequalities: Every school in the borough has access to the same high-quality training and resources.
  • Supporting SEN Needs: Active learning approaches benefit all learners, particularly those with additional needs.
  • Boosting Educational Outcomes: Research shows that physical activity enhances concentration, memory, and academic performance.

Looking Ahead

This is the most exciting project of its kind across the UK, and we're expecting national recognition for this innovative work. The project strongly aligns with Sport England's place-based ambitions and Greater Manchester's leadership in prevention and education.

But beyond the accolades, what matters most is the impact this will have in classrooms across Bury — where children will be moving, learning, and thriving.
